The story of Sam, Esther, and Jane…

I’ll let the videos that follow do all the ranting for me…

Quoting verbatim from the first video:

“…most organized religions, sadly, devote much of their time and energy to defending dogma, or destroying dissidents…when kneeling before a fragile, little boy like Sam; those kind of petty and immature religious practices dissolve into a sea of insignificance…love is all that matters…”

Have we realized yet what it is that our greed and selfishness is doing to humanity?

Uganda’s rich mineral deposits of copper and cobalt, its fertile land – allowing it to be amongst the world’s top coffee producers, and its large untapped reserves of crude oil and natural gas, are a curse for its people. Like their counterparts in other resource-rich countries, Ugandans are amongst the poorest in the world where even today, more than half of Uganda’s population lives under the international poverty line – earning a measly $ 1.25 a day…

The wealthy elite are leaving no stone unturned to ensure that Ugandan’s are never able to rise above the misery and poverty – because that is how the rich get richer…so wipe off those tears that welled up as you watched the videos and suck it up…our great masters – of politics and religion – are looting the wealth of nations and we are happy to help – as long as we get what we desire…

This is but the tip of the iceberg – there are many god-forsaken places on this planet that camera crews are not able to reach – these are the places that you and I will never get to see – in person or on the tube…because these places are brimming with either shiny, glittery stuff or dark, slicky stuff - and the grand masters of control do everything in their power to ensure no one ever gets to see the reality in these places – from hiring and arming rogues to keep folks like you and me away, to planting land-mines all over the terrain just in case any of us got a little brave…was Princess Di not going to expose some of these high-ranking, influential folks involved in procuring and placing these land mines all over the planet at the UN just a few months before she had that unfortunate accident? Accident, eh? - Guess we’ll never know now…

Tibet is another example - has anyone ever bothered to ask why China spends so much of its time, money, and resources on ensuring that Tibet stays in its control – and that Tibetans are never allowed to make any progress? I guess no one told you that 10% (and possibly more) of the world’s oil reserves lie beneath the ground less than 200km north of its capital…who knows how much more oil there really is in that country…

I digress…

Stop those crocodile tears of yours - if the less fortunate are a children of a lesser god, it is because of us – each and every one of us – the segregation, biases, and prejudices that we have interited from our ‘religious’ dogma; and the greed, selfishness, and apathy with which we conduct ourselves everyday are the main reasons why a select few from amongst us are able to manipulate their way to bottomless buckets of riches on the backs of innocent folks like Sam, Esther, and Jane…shame on us…shame!

Kudos to the countless grass-roots humanitarian workers out there who are doing the best they can to help the less fortunate, and are working harder than ever, trying to undo the damage that we are responsible for…

Wake up if you dare…

Wake up if you care…

There’s something fishy about this pandemic…

swine_flu_vaccineAs the World Health Organization declares a Global Pandemic and works tirelessly at scaring everyone to death about the Swine Flu – in an effort to get everyone vaccinated against a disease that is no more dangerous than the common flu in the ‘real‘ world; here’s a word of caution to anyone that cares to listen…

Be careful of what (and who) you believe…the vaccine that everyone is convinced will help them survive this ‘monster‘ virus has not been properly tested – and in any case, if you do your research, you will learn that it is ONLY your immune system (the strength of which is, in large part, reflective of your lifestyle) that will help you fight a flu outbreak – regardless of the strain…

A vaccine is NOT the answer to flu-like viruses for MOST people – note the emphasis on the word ‘MOST‘ – that is because there are people out there with certain medical conditions for whom taking a vaccine may be better than taking a chance with the virus – but for the majority of us, young and old alike, a vaccine – especially this ‘untested‘ one – may cause many other health problems later on (as we have no clue of what the potential side effects of the drugs could be since they are so poorly tested) – and would cause our immune system to naturally lose it’s willingness to fight on its own, by creating a dependence on the drugs…

It is also very important to understand that the flu strain keeps mutating every time – so the vaccine you take today, will NOT protect you from a strain that evolves tomorrow…please understand that – this is not like the polio or mumps vaccine that we take as kids that protect us for a ‘lifetime‘…these ‘vaccines‘ are only good for the strain of the day – and to keep up with the mutations out there, we would have to keep taking in all those drugs all our lives…

Healthy eating, an active lifestyle, good overall hygiene, and keeping away from people when we have the sniffles – will guarantee us bouncing back from a bout with the bug in a few days…and your natural immunity also gets the exercise it needs to stay in shape for bigger and nastier viruses out there…I get hit with the bug often – as my daily work involves interaction with different people (…and their keyboardsan average keyboard contains thousands of more viruses per square inch than the average public toilet seatdon’t cringeit’s a fact…)…I take a couple of days off each time – rest, eat fresh and healthy stuff, stay away from the public (to help contain the bug); and my immune system does the rest…

I don’t subscribe to nonsense and only assert that which I can sustain empirically; so I’ll not dwell on the many ‘conspiracy‘ theories out there about the supposed ‘orchestration‘ of this pandemic…but there are hints here and there of a lot of ‘manipulation‘ of fact – and I don’t trust mainstream media one bit – so I set off on some research of my own – and I was SHOCKED at what I found…

I don’t know who is behind this or why – but I do know that the government and media is literally LYING through their teeth about the H1N1 virus…there was one report by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) down south that claimed that 36,000 Americans die each year from the swine flu – that lie was quickly exposed and found to be a ‘gross exaggeration based on flawed data compilation‘ – and even then, there is data to suggest many more deaths are caused directly or indirectly by the common cold – regular seasonal flu – each year…but I don’t see any government spending millions of dollars and scrambling for a vaccine for that strain of the bug…why so much drum beating here?…something fishy is cooking out there folks…something very, very fishy…

I’m not going to tell you who to believe – and if you choose to get the shot, power to you – and if you don’t, power to you all the same…I will share with you what I discovered as I researched this ‘body of lies‘ that our beloved goons in politics and media have been preparing for us – whatever their agenda or objective is, it is very clear to me that there are some people (possibly very high up there in our food chain) that are doing whatever they can to make sure we comply and take the vaccination – whether we need it or not…whether it is good for us or not…

Here are 10 blatant LIES that we’re being fed by our sponsor-dollar-hungry media (copied verbatim from an article by Mike Adams a.k.a. ‘Health Ranger’ of naturalnews.com) – [...note that there are many other sources of information out there with similar information about the nonsense that our governments are trying to sell us - especially with the push they are making to make the H1N1 vaccine a 'mandatory' one for all citizens - do your own research...someone, somewhere, has a very dirty secret - and is pulling all strings to make sure you and I comply with their hidden agenda - and if we can't be threatened or scared into compliance, they will make it 'illegal' for us not to - something is not right...]:

The mainstream media is engaged in what we Americans call “bald faced lies” about swine flu. It seems to be true with this issue more than any other, and it became apparent to me recently when a colleague of mine — a nationally-syndicated newspaper columnist — told me their column on natural defenses for swine flu was rejected by newspapers all across the country. Many newspapers refused to run the column and, instead, ran an ad for “free vaccine clinics” in the same space.

The media, it seems, is so deeply in bed with the culture of vaccinations that they will do almost anything to keep the public misinformed. And that includes lying about swine flu vaccines.

There are ten key lies that continue to be told by the mainstream media (MSM) about swine flu and swine flu vaccines.

Lie #1There are no adjuvants used in the vaccines

I was recently being interviewed by a major U.S. news network when the reporter interviewing me came up with this humdinger: There are no adjuvants being used in the swine flu vaccines, he said!

I assured him that adjuvants were, indeed, a crucial part of the vaccine recipe, and they were being widely used by drug companies to “stretch” the vaccine supply. It’s no secret. But he insisted he had been directly told by a drug company rep that no adjuvants were being used at all. And he believed them! So everything being published by this large news network about swine flu vaccines now assumes there are no adjuvants in the vaccines at all.

Lie #2 The swine flu is more dangerous than seasonal flu

This lie is finally starting to unravel. I admit that in the early days of this pandemic, even I was concerned this could be a global killer. But after observing the very mild impact the virus was having on people in the real world, it became obvious that this was a mild flu, no more dangerous than a seasonal flu.

The MSM, however, continues to promote H1N1 swine flu as being super dangerous, driving fear into the minds of people and encouraging them to rush out and get a vaccine shot for a flu that’s really no more likely to kill them than the regular winter sniffles. Sure, the virus could still mutate into something far worse, but if it does that, the current vaccine could be rendered obsolete anyway!

Lie #3Vaccines protect you from swine flu

This is the biggest lie of all, and the media pushes it hard. Getting a vaccine, they insist, will protect you from the swine flu. But it’s just flat-out false. Even if the vaccine produces antibodies, that’s not the same thing as real-world immunity from a live virus, especially if the virus mutates (as they often do).

As I pointed out in a recent article, statistically speaking the average American is 40 times more likely to be struck by lightning than to have their life saved by a swine flu vaccine. (http://www.naturalnews.com/026955_swine_flu_vaccines_flu_vaccines.html)

Lie #4Vaccines are safe

And how would any journalists actually know this? None of the vaccines have been subjected to real-world testing for any meaningful duration. The “safety” of these vaccines is nothing more than wishful thinking.

The MSM also doesn’t want you to know what’s in the vaccines. Some vaccines are made from viral fragments grown in diseased African monkeys. If that sounds incredible, read the true story here: http://www.naturalnews.com/026779_swine_flu_patents_vaccines.html

Lie #5The vaccine isn’t mandatory

You hear this lie all the time: The swine flu vaccine shot is voluntary, they say. But it’s not true if you’re an employee at a place where vaccines are being mandated. Millions of Americans are now being told by their employers that if they don’t get vaccine shots, they will be effectively fired from their jobs. It’s especially true with health care workers, day care employees and school teachers.

Lie #6Getting a vaccine shot is a good bet on your health

In reality, a vaccine shot is far more likely to harm you than help you. According to one viral expert, the actual mortality rate of the swine flu virus is estimated to be as low as .007 percent (http://www.reuters.com/article/healthNews/idUSTRE58E6NZ20090916). That means H1N1 swine flu kills less than one person in 100,000. Even if the vaccine works, let’s say, 10 percent of the time, you’d have to vaccine one million people to prevent one death from swine flu.

And in vaccinating one million people, you would inevitably harm or kill several people, simply from the vaccine side effects! Your net risk of death is increased by getting a swine flu vaccine.

Lie #7The vaccine isn’t made with “attenuated live virus”

When the swine flu vaccines were first being announced several months ago, they were described as being made with “attenuated live virus.” This was directly mentioned in CDC documents, among other places.

This term apparently freaked out the American news consumer, and it has since been all but erased from any discussion about vaccines. Now, journalists will actually argue with you and insist the vaccines contain no attenuated live viruses whatsoever.

Except they’re wrong. The vaccines are, indeed, made with “attenuated live viruses.” That’s how you make a vaccine: You take live viruses, then you weaken them (”attenuate”) and inject them into people.

Lie #8Wash, wash, wash your hands (to avoid exposure)

This idea of washing your hands a hundred times a day is all based on the assumption that you can avoid exposure to the swine flu virus. But that’s impractical. The virus is now so widespread that virtually everyone is certain to be exposed to it through the air if not other means. This whole idea of avoiding exposure to the swine flu virus is nonsense. The conversation should shift to ways to survive exposure via a healthy immune system.

Of course, hand washing is a very good idea in a hospital setting. Recent news reveals that doctors are too busy to wash their own hands, resulting in the rampant spread of superbugs throughout most large hospitals in first world nations.

Lie #9Children are more vulnerable to swine flu than adults

This is just a flat-out lie, but it makes for good vaccine sales. Vaccines are right now being targeted primarily to schoolchildren.

But the truth is that swine flu is extremely mild in children. “It’s mildest in kids,” says Dr Marc Lipsitch of Harvard University. “That’s one of the really good pieces of news in this pandemic.” Reuters actually had the guts to report this story, but most of the larger media outlets are still reporting that children are the most vulnerable.

Lie #10There is nothing else you can do beyond a vaccine and Tamiflu

This is where the media lies by omission. The mainstream media absolutely refuses to print just about any story that talks about using vitamin D, anti-viral herbs or natural remedies to protect yourself from swine flu. In the MSM, there are two options and only two: Vaccines and Tamiflu. That’s it. No other options exist in their fictional reality.

Why is the mainstream media so afraid to print the truth these days? Why can’t reporting on swine flu see the light of day… literally, with a mention of sunlight and vitamin D? Apparently, Big Pharma has such a tight grip on mainstream newspapers that no true story on swine flu can ever make it past the editor’s desk.

Killing stories, deceiving the public

It must really be depressing to work for the mainstream media. Even the reporters I know can’t stand it. The truth, they admit, rarely makes it into print.

Over the last few years, I’ve had a couple of job offers from large media outlets. They want to pay me a six-figure salary and stick me behind a desk where they can control what I report. Needless to say, I routinely reject those offers. If I can’t write the truth like I do here on NaturalNews.com, there’s no point writing at all. In too many ways, the mainstream media has become little more than a corporate mouthpiece, whoring itself out to the highest bidder/advertiser.

It’s no fault of the frontline reporters who actually work there. For the most part, they agree with what I’m saying. It’s the fault of the profit-oriented corporate mindset where news is about selling newspapers rather than actually informing the public.

Important news stories get killed every day in the newsrooms across America. They get killed not because they are poorly investigated or poorly written, but because they upset advertisers and corporate string pullers who shape the news and reject any stories that threaten their own financial interests.

Here in 2009, the distorted reporting on the swine flu vaccine has been one of the greatest media frauds ever perpetrated. The media has in every way contributed to the widespread ignorance of the American people on the subject of vitamin D and natural immune-boosting defenses that could reduce swine flu fatalities. Rather than informing readers, the MSM has made it a point to keep the people stupid, and in doing so, the media has failed its only mission and betrayed the very audience is claims to serve.

I’m reminded of a February 2008 study by the University of Leeds that found a mere 5% have the natural capacity to make the remaining 95% of us follow blindly…we are naturally inclined to behave like a ‘flock’ of lost sheep…idiots by nature…

You cannot make a man by standing a sheep on its hind legs. But by standing a flock of sheep in that position you can make a crowd of men.”

…a special bouquet from me…

Wait till the other shoe dropsRemember that crazy one? – the misfit, troublemaker Iraqi journalist who threw his shoes at the moron? What was he thinking? We shower our crooks with our hard-earned money, and the ingrate had the audacity to throw his dirty shoes at the beloved commander of the fearful? How dare he???

Thankfully, he has been released from prison…he is very lucky though – many who have dared challenge the crookedness out there have not lived to tell their story…like those poor souls (in the days gone by) accused of being ‘witches‘ and burned alive by the ‘Church‘ just because they refused to comply with and/or questioned the integrity and motives of the powers that were (not to digress, but the practice of accusing people of witchcraft and burning them alive continues to this day – where the religious ‘influence’ continues to sponsor this ridiculous and inhumane practice in some of the most ignorant, superstitious places on this planet); I had a knot in my gut all along about Mutadhar al-Zaidi’s fate – not hoping or wishing for the worst, but expecting it nonetheless…

I am glad he lived to tell his story – and I wish him a long, healthy, prosperous, safe, peaceful, happy, and meaningful existence…

Mutadhar has been tortured, ridiculed, called names, accused of being an agent of political/fanatical/zealot outfits – some have gone as far as labeling him as being a ‘disgrace‘ to Iraq and to the profession of journalism…

I  chuckle at the spin the corrupt media keeps churning for mass consumption – and I chuckle even harder at all the idiots who continue consuming this crap by the bucketfuls – a ‘disgrace‘? – I’ll tell you who is a disgrace to not just a single country or a profession but to humanity itself…the politicians, of past and present (and their counterparts in the mammoth organized businesses of ‘religion’ which are run by even bigger crooks)…whether it be Bush or his predecessor(s) or successor(s) or his counterparts all over the planet…they don’t care about the responsibilities entrusted to them by the people who put them in office…they don’t have any conscience, and absolutely no moral, ethical, or logical foundation…they sell their souls to the highest bidder – their only motivation: power – their only objective: the accumulation of personal wealth – their only guiding principle: greed…

Alas, the media will never change – especially their subservience to sponsorship – if the sponsor says spin, they spin hard – shame on you, mass media, and everyone that helps contribute to the nonsense you sell in return for sponsorship dollars…you are a disgrace! – not folks like al-Zaidi…

…there’s one thing I’d like to comment on – and that is the perception out there that Bush is the ultimate crook in all of the recent turmoil we’ve blindly put ourselves into…Bush, Cheney, Condi, their chums, predecessors, successors, and their counterparts everywhere are but ‘little‘ people (literally: very ‘little’ people) – pawns – greed-motivated fools who simply do as they are told in return for heavy bundles of crisp, neatly trimmed wads of recycled paper…those who really need to be showered with dirty, stinky shoes are their ‘grand masters‘ – the people you and I never get to meet; but who, courtesy of their (mostly illegally) acquired bottomless buckets of money, are able to easily procure the souls of the crooks that we call ‘politicians‘ and ‘religious leaders‘ to do their bidding…

I’ll stop ranting here and will share the profound, touching speech Mutadhar al-Zaidi delivered following his release (translated by Sahar Issa):

In the name of God, the most gracious and most merciful.

Here I am, free. But my country is still a prisoner of war.

Firstly, I give my thanks and my regards to everyone who stood beside me, whether inside my country, in the Islamic world, in the free world. There has been a lot of talk about the action and about the person who took it, and about the hero and the heroic act, and the symbol and the symbolic act.

But, simply, I answer: What compelled me to confront is the injustice that befell my people, and how the occupation wanted to humiliate my homeland by putting it under its boot.

And how it wanted to crush the skulls of (the homeland’s) sons under its boots, whether sheikhs, women, children or men. And during the past few years, more than a million martyrs fell by the bullets of the occupation and the country is now filled with more than 5 million orphans, a million widows and hundreds of thousands of maimed. And many millions of homeless because of displacement inside and outside the country.

We used to be a nation in which the Arab would share with the Turkman and the Kurd and the Assyrian and the Sabean and the Yazid his daily bread. And the Shiite would pray with the Sunni in one line. And the Muslim would celebrate with the Christian the birthday of Christ, may peace be upon him. And despite the fact that we shared hunger under sanctions for more than 10 years, for more than a decade.

Our patience and our solidarity did not make us forget the oppression. Until we were invaded by the illusion of liberation that some had. (The occupation) divided one brother from another, one neighbor from another, and the son from his uncle. It turned our homes into never-ending funeral tents. And our graveyards spread into parks and roadsides. It is a plague. It is the occupation that is killing us, that is violating the houses of worship and the sanctity of our homes and that is throwing thousands daily into makeshift prisons.

I am not a hero, and I admit that. But I have a point of view and I have a stance. It humiliated me to see my country humiliated. And to see my Baghdad burned. And my people being killed. Thousands of tragic pictures remained in my head, and this weighs on me every day and pushes me toward the righteous path, the path of confrontation, the path of rejecting injustice, deceit and duplicity. It deprived me of a good night’s sleep.

Dozens, no, hundreds, of images of massacres that would turn the hair of a newborn white used to bring tears to my eyes and wound me. The scandal of Abu Ghraib. The massacre of Fallujah, Najaf, Haditha, Sadr City, Basra, Diyala, Mosul, Tal Afar, and every inch of our wounded land. In the past years, I traveled through my burning land and saw with my own eyes the pain of the victims, and hear with my own ears the screams of the bereaved and the orphans. And a feeling of shame haunted me like an ugly name because I was powerless.

And as soon as I finished my professional duties in reporting the daily tragedies of the Iraqis, and while I washed away the remains of the debris of the ruined Iraqi houses, or the traces of the blood of victims that stained my clothes, I would clench my teeth and make a pledge to our victims, a pledge of vengeance.

The opportunity came, and I took it.

I took it out of loyalty to every drop of innocent blood that has been shed through the occupation or because of it, every scream of a bereaved mother, every moan of an orphan, the sorrow of a rape victim, the teardrop of an orphan.

I say to those who reproach me: Do you know how many broken homes that shoe that I threw had entered because of the occupation? How many times it had trodden over the blood of innocent victims? And how many times it had entered homes in which free Iraqi women and their sanctity had been violated? Maybe that shoe was the appropriate response when all values were violated.

When I threw the shoe in the face of the criminal, Bush, I wanted to express my rejection of his lies, his occupation of my country, my rejection of his killing my people. My rejection of his plundering the wealth of my country, and destroying its infrastructure. And casting out its sons into a diaspora.

After six years of humiliation, of indignity, of killing and violations of sanctity, and desecration of houses of worship, the killer comes, boasting, bragging about victory and democracy. He came to say goodbye to his victims and wanted flowers in response.

Put simply, that was my flower to the occupier, and to all who are in league with him, whether by spreading lies or taking action, before the occupation or after.

I wanted to defend the honor of my profession and suppressed patriotism on the day the country was violated and its high honor lost. Some say: Why didn’t he ask Bush an embarrassing question at the press conference, to shame him? And now I will answer you, journalists. How can I ask Bush when we were ordered to ask no questions before the press conference began, but only to cover the event. It was prohibited for any person to question Bush.

And in regard to professionalism: The professionalism mourned by some under the auspices of the occupation should not have a voice louder than the voice of patriotism. And if patriotism were to speak out, then professionalism should be allied with it.

I take this opportunity: If I have wronged journalism without intention, because of the professional embarrassment I caused the establishment, I wish to apologize to you for any embarrassment I may have caused those establishments. All that I meant to do was express with a living conscience the feelings of a citizen who sees his homeland desecrated every day.

History mentions many stories where professionalism was also compromised at the hands of American policymakers, whether in the assassination attempt against Fidel Castro by booby-trapping a TV camera that CIA agents posing as journalists from Cuban TV were carrying, or what they did in the Iraqi war by deceiving the general public about what was happening. And there are many other examples that I won’t get into here.

But what I would like to call your attention to is that these suspicious agencies — the American intelligence and its other agencies and those that follow them — will not spare any effort to track me down (because I am) a rebel opposed to their occupation. They will try to kill me or neutralize me, and I call the attention of those who are close to me to the traps that these agencies will set up to capture or kill me in various ways, physically, socially or professionally.

And at the time that the Iraqi prime minister came out on satellite channels to say that he didn’t sleep until he had checked in on my safety, and that I had found a bed and a blanket, even as he spoke I was being tortured with the most horrific methods: electric shocks, getting hit with cables, getting hit with metal rods, and all this in the backyard of the place where the press conference was held. And the conference was still going on and I could hear the voices of the people in it. And maybe they, too, could hear my screams and moans.

In the morning, I was left in the cold of winter, tied up after they soaked me in water at dawn. And I apologize for Mr. Maliki for keeping the truth from the people. I will speak later, giving names of the people who were involved in torturing me, and some of them were high-ranking officials in the government and in the army.

I didn’t do this so my name would enter history or for material gains. All I wanted was to defend my country, and that is a legitimate cause confirmed by international laws and divine rights. I wanted to defend a country, an ancient civilization that has been desecrated, and I am sure that history — especially in America — will state how the American occupation was able to subjugate Iraq and Iraqis, until its submission.

They will boast about the deceit and the means they used in order to gain their objective. It is not strange, not much different from what happened to the Native Americans at the hands of colonialists. Here I say to them (the occupiers) and to all who follow their steps, and all those who support them and spoke up for their cause: Never.

Because we are a people who would rather die than face humiliation.

And, lastly, I say that I am independent. I am not a member of any political party, something that was said during torture — one time that I’m far-right, another that I’m a leftist. I am independent of any political party, and my future efforts will be in civil service to my people and to any who need it, without waging any political wars, as some said that I would.

My efforts will be toward providing care for widows and orphans, and all those whose lives were damaged by the occupation. I pray for mercy upon the souls of the martyrs who fell in wounded Iraq, and for shame upon those who occupied Iraq and everyone who assisted them in their abominable acts. And I pray for peace upon those who are in their graves, and those who are oppressed with the chains of imprisonment. And peace be upon you who are patient and looking to God for release.

And to my beloved country I say: If the night of injustice is prolonged, it will not stop the rising of a sun and it will be the sun of freedom.

One last word. I say to the government: It is a trust that I carry from my fellow detainees. They said, ‘Muntadhar, if you get out, tell of our plight to the omnipotent powers’ — I know that only God is omnipotent and I pray to Him — ‘remind them that there are dozens, hundreds, of victims rotting in prisons because of an informant’s word.’

They have been there for years, they have not been charged or tried.

They’ve only been snatched up from the streets and put into these prisons. And now, in front of you, and in the presence of God, I hope they can hear me or see me. I have now made good on my promise of reminding the government and the officials and the politicians to look into what’s happening inside the prisons. The injustice that’s caused by the delay in the judicial system.

Thank you. And may God’s peace be upon you.

The criminal murderer is standing here expecting us to throw flowers at him; this was my flower to the occupier.” – Mutadhar al-Zaidi

…the first time I read Mutadhar’s speech, anger overcame me – anger at the status quo – anger at our collective apathy – anger at my meaningless existence in which so many precious moments are wasted in the pursuit of shiny, glittery, meaningless material objects – just anger – and meaningless is a kind word to describe how I felt about my existence…then, I read it a second time…and I felt ashamed…ashamed at the hypocrisy that reflects back at me when I look in the mirror…ashamed our collective inability (and unwillingness) to contribute to meaningful endeavor and to protect our own from the evil within and amongst us…ashamed at the selfish, greedy, ignorant fool that I have chosen to be…and then, I read it a third time…and I cried…like a little baby…I couldn’t stop the tears…and I felt no emotions as I cried…I didn’t feel pity, or guilt, or shame, or anger, or sorrow, or helplessness as the tears flowed…I just cried…tears blur my vision as I type this rant…but I continue crying as I write…I can’t stop…and don’t want to…

…an overflowing special bouquet from me…of beautiful, exotic, fragrant flowers to the Mutadhars of this world – and of sweaty, dirty, stinky, cow-dung-dipped shoes to the crooks and their grand-masters and especially to me, the shameless creature whose apathy, selfishness, greed, and ignorance allows these crooks and their grand-masters to thrive…

…the racial profiling rant…

Racial Profiling

Following the latest ‘Suaad Hagi Mohamud‘ fiasco that our beauraucrats have landed themselves into – and with all due respect to the woman and the horrible things she had to endure just because of some incompetent fools out there – I chuckle when everyone in the hierarchy vehemently denies any form of racial profiling practised in our part of the world - a part of the world that prides itself as being a beacon for immigrants and one that celebrates its rich cultural mosaic at every opportunity it gets…

I will not speculate on Suaad Mohamud’s case but will rant on this practice based on my OWN very recent experience with the ‘profiling‘ that we are told (time and again) doesn’t exist…

I just got back from a trip to the Riviera Maya in Mexico with my wife and 12-year-old child…throughout the trip – I was miraculously picked, for a ‘random‘ check of my person and belongings…my bags were opened – and my wife’s handbag went through the screening machine twice at one point – I was almost tempted to ask my wife to open the purse and empty its contents on the table and to ask the screener if they wanted us to remove all the sheets of kleenex in her little travel pack just in case – but held back out of respect for my wife’s privacy and for the sake of my 12-year-old…

All this would not have been such a big deal if it was truly ‘random‘ – but, of the 189 other passengers on the same flight, only we had the honor of being picked ‘randomly‘ for thorough checking…it was amazing how the ‘random‘ checking magically stopped after they had put me through a couple of different screening machines…I did not see any of my other fellow passengers get picked for that ‘random‘ check – they waltzed in to the screening area, left their stuff on the conveyor, waltzed through the main scanner, picked up their belongings, and merrily made their way to the gate…every single one of them…

At one of our ‘random‘ baggage checks, I commented to my wife…asking her to remind me to call the lottery office the next time I purchase a ticket and let them know my ticket number and full name – I may actually have a stab at a big-ticket price if they had my Arab name in advance…after all, every time someone saw my name, they automatically picked me for a ‘random‘ something…

My daughter also noticed this odd coincidence and asked me as to why no one else was made to open their bags - and I didn’t really want to tell her that it was because of our Arab/Persian names…I was the only passenger that had to step aside each time and walk through an array of additional machines while my daughter watched…it would only have been fair to pick more than one ‘random‘ passenger on that flight – and a different one each time…don’t you think???…

My trip to Kyrgyz a few years earlier was no different – at Toronto Pearson International and London Heathrow – both ways – I had to remove my shoes, socks, belt, empty my pockets, walk through the first scanner, get scanned by hand (even though I heard no beeps or sirens walking through the first scanner), then step into the machine where I had to stand still while they blew spurts of air all over my body (checking for chemicals, I think), then walk over to where my laptop back-pack and carry-on bag were waiting to be inspected by hand – and they kept telling me ‘…random check, sir…’ each time – both ways – really???

And all this as a Canadian Citizen and Passport holder with not even a parking infraction on record – heaven forbid if I was a citizen of a ‘lesser‘ nation…I would probably have to spend a night in some holding cell at each stop along the way (…just random checking, sir…) while they slit my skin open and scanned the insides of my body for whatever it is that they are always looking for in people (with Arab names) sporting natural tans…

Still think racial (or ethnic) profiling is a myth?

  • A 2005 study of police statistics in Kingston, Ontario – published in May of that year and reported by CBC on the 26th of May, 2005 showed that (and what follows is copied verbatim from the CBC story): “…police in the predominantly white city were 3.7 times more likely to stop a black as a caucasian, and 1.4 times more likely to stop an aboriginal person than a white…”
  • The same CBC story cites statistics gathered from British police records that show (and verbatim, again, from the same CBC story): “…that black people were stopped and searched at a rate of 142 per 1000. Whites were stopped and searched at a rate of just 19 per 1000…”

From a CBS News story published on September 29, 2003: Two researchers – from the University of Chicago and MIT – took the content of 500 real resumes off online job boards and then evaluated them, as objectively as possible, for quality, using such factors as education and experience. Then they replaced the names with made-up names picked to “sound white” or “sound black” and responded to 1,300 job ads in The Boston Globe and Chicago Tribune…

Guess what happened???

“…a higher quality resume, featuring more skills and experience, made a white-sounding name 30 percent more likely to elicit a callback, but only 9 percent more likely for black-sounding names…” – this is verbatim from the CBS News story…

…and this is but the ‘tip‘ of the proverbial iceberg…

So before you head out to ridicule someone who claims to have been unfairly profiled by the powers that be, do your research – racial profiling is alive, well, and thriving…and I’m sure it’s the same everywhere you go – I know for a fact (first-hand) that in Kazakhstan, they profile ethnic ‘Tajiks‘ much like how we profile the ‘visual minorities‘ in our corner of the planet…that’s how these crooks running highly organized businesses of religion and politics make all their profits – by ensuring that we’re always ‘afraid‘ of each other…divided, we fall – all the time…

Oh, and by the way, Riviera Maya is a beautiful place to visit…even if you possess an Arab name and sport a fabulous natural tan…
